Standing: trusting no matter what comes my way

Shifting: trusting one minute; despairing the next

Is the heading a little dramatic, YES! But, oh friends, how I need to read and reread and reread those words!

Am I standing on God's promises or am I shifting every time the wind blows a different direction?

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of living in defeat because I allow life's circumstances to take me from standing firm to shifting between hope and despair.

Let's start at the beginning. God created the entire earth as you and I experience it in SIX days. The dynamics that we see everyday surrounding us as well as the intricate features that makes our bodies work, God created. He created it all perfectly until sin entered the world.

Ponder for a minute on the size of an acorn versus a mighty oak tree. Two microscopic cells that grew into you. I cannot fathom how either phenomena occurs, but God does. Yet, I doubt that He can handle the troubles that come my way.

Standing on the God of the Universe or shifting . . .

Now let's go to circumstances. I could never begin to list ALL the miraculous stories given to us in the Bible of how God has time and time and time again shown up in mighty ways for His children. But here's a few:

  • the Red Sea (Exodus 14)
  • Daniel in the lions den (Daniel 6)
  • Gideon on the thrashing floor
  • Abigail serving David
  • Paul saved from shipwrecks
  • Victory of the Resurrection

These stories don't even begin to tell of God's faithfulness and might.

God is faithful ALWAYS, not sometimes, not when it's convenient for Him. ALWAYS

In my wrestling, God sent me this verse:

Does He promise and not fulfill?

Numbers 23:19

Sit with these holy words in His holy presence.

Six powerful, life changing words.

The question then becomes:

Am I going to start

Standing: trusting no matter what comes my way

Or will I continue

Shifting: trusting one minute; despairing the next

Oh, Abba, You are good, ALWAYS good. Take my doubting heart in Your capable hands and help me to stand in Your goodness rather than shift each time satan whispers his lies of Your absence, Your incompetency, Your lack of caring in the difficulties that come my way.

You fiercely love me. Teach my heart to trust and stand rather than tremble and shift ~
