Be Still?

Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 46:10

You’ve asked us to be still and know that You are God. OK, but,

  • Have You seen inside my refrigerator lately? I’m not really for sure what is growing in there and what is not. I’ll be still after I get it cleaned out.
  • You placed me in a blended family that has grown from 4 to 7 kiddos and now the blessing of 11 and counting grandkids. I mean I have a sense of humor and all, but that’s a lot and then expecting me to be still?
  • You’ve given me a love of farming, gardening, flowering, yet, the weather, the weeds all make it difficult and time consuming. There’s really not much extra time to be still.
  • You’ve called us to serve. I help in the nursery (do You know how many kiddos are back there), I play the keyboard (do You know how early we practice), I try to take food to people (do You know how long it takes to make a pie?) Man, I get worn out and have very little energy left for being still.

Be still and know that I am God . . .

Untitled 1

If you’ve ever read the book of Daniel, you know what amazing things God accomplished through him. Daniel’s secret is found in chapter 6 verse 10. Three times a day Daniel was on his knees before Jehovah God praying and giving thanks. WOW, does that ever make me rethink what does and does not fit into my schedule.

Daniel was an important member of King Darius’s court and yet three times a day he was still. He sought the face of Holy God. He was obedient and no doubt those moments of humility paved the way for Daniel to be used mightily in THE Kingdom. Daniel was still because he was humble.

The reason I don’t like to be still is because I place more stock in my capabilities than I do the time spent one on One with my Father. I have the mindset that I can handle whatever is on my plate – until I can’t. My gameplan is to go it on my own for as long as I can and THEN to seek Abba. No time or need to be still until I’m in crisis mode.

This train of thought has me scratching my own head. What backward thinking! Possibly if I would be still I wouldn’t get myself into the pickles I often experience?!?!

Phone rings

Hello

You need it in 15 minutes

Sure, I’ll get it there

Feverishly planning and executing

But first,

Pause, and be still

We will never live the life God has called us to until we learn to be still and know that HE IS GOD ~
