Much to my husband’s dismay, the Christmas decorations are still up! Yep, it’s February 7, 2023, and the tree is still lit, the mantle still has it’s festive display, and the Nativity on top of the piano still reminds us of why we celebrate the season.
We decorate the day after Thanksgiving – choosing the rat race of taking down fall decor and replacing it with greenery, the Santa collection, and lights that are meticulously set on automatic timers over the rat race of shopping. When we head to bed, the dark house is lit with Christmas and when we wake we are greeted with a soft glow that chases away the dreariness of the winter season.
One particular morning last week, I was mulling over an impossible situation when the Nativity caught my eye. As I stood looking at the whole scene, I was reminded of the earthly impossibility of that amazing story. And then I heard the words, “But, God”. Anything we face that seems insurmountable is changed by these two words – BUT, GOD! I literally had to pause at the power of those words!
Take a minute to think of your impossible and whisper But, God
On the mantle sits a chalkboard with the the phrase, “O, come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord”. When we realize the power of But God in each and every situation on our journey and take the time to stop and simply adore the Baby born to become our Savior, our Lord, our Shepherd, our Everything ~ our perception changes. Once again we realize the possibility of all things through Christ.
So, yes, I could take our decorations down at the beginning of the new year, but oh, how I love celebrating the birth of the best Thing that’s ever happened to us. How I love peace on earth and good will toward men. How I love the reminders that my God continues to do the impossible ~ I’m just not ready to pack them away in totes.
My challenge to us all is to not let the Spirit of December 25th get packed away this year. May we remember But God as we go throughout 2023 and help others to see the hope in those two powerful words. May we adopt a Christmas 365 mentality and hold tightly to the words spoken to Mary when the angel told her of the miraculous coming of the Messiah.
For nothing is impossible with God.
Luke 1:37
Friends, I wrote this in 2022, but the message is still needed in 2023. I need to truly soak in the truth of that verse - nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible with our God! He is able, yes, no matter what we're facing, HE IS ABLE. To God be the glory for what He has and for what He will continue to do in our lives!

Farmer Dan, I will linger a bit more before packing up the tree, but I do assure you, it will be down well before spring planting! Until then . . . Enjoy, Sweetie????
