Surrender
in humility may we surrender to HIM
Seeking His will and not mine while
Understanding His love for me means He wants only the best.
Realizing His ways and thoughts are higher than mine.
Reaching the point of saying, "It is well with my soul."
Enough of the fighting, the controlling, and trying to do this myself.
No longer denying You Your rightful spot in my heart.
Deciding to lay my pride at the foot of the cross;
Embracing the freedom of letting go ~
Releasing my grip and letting You have Your way!
Surrender comes from the French word surrendre meaning "give up, deliver over"; it is a term used in war. When we haven't "given up or delivered our hearts" to God, we're fighting Him. We think we know best and we allow our pride to lead us rather than His grace. How I remember the early days of our marriage when I was doing what I thought was best only to find out my arrogance was standing in the way of God working.
Another fight I have with God, are expectations. I think people should act or situations should turn out according to the gospel of ME. To be real frank ~ it's a control issue! Talk about a tough fight with the Father! Who am I to even begin thinking I should have any kind of authority over people or circumstances ~ did I create them?!?! I choose to only see "my way" and to not SEE God (Surrender Every Expectation to God) and let go of the control.
Where the problems occur with surrendering is in not truly knowing the One to Whom I'm surrendering my plans, my expectations, my life. Another issue is not trusting that He indeed wants me to become all He created me to be and sometimes that has to happen through hardships and trials. Gold does not become valuable and precious without refining ~ neither can we.
God has a Book filled with His promises ~ He even gives us gorgeous reminders of His faithfulness. I think of Jesus' words in the Garden of Gethsemane that He prayed right before He was betrayed by several of His closest friends and endured a horrific death that He did not deserve. Yet, He prayed those words because He knew His Father and because He trusted that this horrible ugly would become something beautiful beyond words. This gruesome torture would allow all God's created beings, including you and me, to enter into the Holy of Holies! No words could begin to express the true impact this has on our lives!
Pause and let that overwhelming truth soak in . . .
Jesus taught us is that surrender is a process; it doesn't just happen. Luke 22:39 says, "Jesus went out as usual"; Luke 5:15 tells us, "But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed". Even that night in the garden, Jesus prayed these powerful words three times. There is no magic formula to "give up or deliver over" our wills to the One Who is able ~ it's a continual choice to come into the presence of our Father - the Holy of Holies - lay down our pride and stop fighting Him.
“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
Luke 22:42
Jesus' words in the Garden of Gethsemane paint a perfect picture of humbly surrendering to I AM.
Do we know our Heavenly Father's heart for us to the point that we completely trust Him or do we still, in our pride, want to write our story. When we humbly accept where God has us in life and trust in HIS plan, then we can experience the beauty and freedom of surrender!
There is so much wisdom in these words. I have read this twice and will read it more times throughout today…..because I needed this. Thank you Holy Spirit for placing in front of us what we we when we need it!
Amen! Holy Spirit continue to lead us!
WOW!! This is so powerful and eye opening. My two biggest struggle control and pride! I long for peace when I truly give it all to God. Thanks for your beautiful writing God is working through you!❤️
Mine as well! May we help each other overcome these weaknesses!
Preach it girl! Truth always wins but it can be a “seemingly” impossible road to travel. One we cannot do without Him.🙌
Amen, we cannot do it without Him!!
